Volunteer With Us

There Are Many Ways To Volunteer!
Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering at Melissa’s Second Chances! There are many ways to get involved with our organization, some of which are listed below. To volunteer we require people to be at least 16 yrs of age to volunteer independently, anyone under age 16 can only volunteer if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Anyone younger than 18 needs a volunteer form signed by a parent/guardian.
Shelter
- Cleaning/Organizing, laundry, dishes, clean up yard, etc.
Dogs
- Taking shelter dogs for walks *
- Taking dogs to adoption events
- Furlough (taking a shelter dog out for a few hours to a full day)
- Puppy Visits - taking puppies to a group or organization as part of our fundraising efforts
- F.A.S.T. Program Foster, Advocate, Socialize, Train - this program is designed to focus on dogs at the shelter to help set them up for success
- Be a foster
Cats
- Helping out at Second Cup Cat Cafe
- Join the "cat team" to care for the cats in our shelter and event space rooms
- Be a foster
General
- Helping with various adoption or fundraising events (bake sales, auctions, trivia nights, bingo, nail trims, etc)
- Animal transport - vet/surgery appointments, picking up from other shelters, etc.
- Grant Writing
* Most of the dogs at the shelter are fairly big and strong walkers, although we do occasionally have smaller dogs also. If you are interested in walking dogs, we have some orientation sessions. Sign up here.
